Curtis Falls

Curtis Falls is nestled in the lush rainforest at The Joalah Section of the Tamborine National Park, just a 90 minute drive from the heart of Brisbane. The falls lay at the bottom of a 1.5 klm around trip walk through towering eucalypt trees, huge palms and dence rainforest. The path is easy to manage and is well signposted leading to a viewing platform stable enough to take long exposures to smooth out the water falling from this wonderful waterfall.

Joalah is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘haunt of the lyrebird’ and if you take the time to stop and listen then you may be lucky enough to hear their native call. About halfway down to the falls there is a viewing platform with a bench for sitting and taking in the sounds of the rainforest and the running water from the creek below. It is important to note that behind the falls is a glow worm colony so it is strictly prohibited to leave the viewing platform at the falls.

The Joalah Lower Creek Circuit is an easy grade 2.4 klm return loop travelling past the creek surrounded in piccabeen palm trees and several rock pools. There are a couple of concrete bridges and stepping stone crossings to negotiate so mind your step and wear appropriate footwear.

The falls are best viewed after substancial rain, however Curtis Falls runs all year round. It is a great way to spend a nature enriching couple of hours. Take some drinking water and mosquito repellent.

As with any national park “Take Nothing by Photographs and Leave Nothing But Footprints”
